Why CosmoCon?

Nina Alvarez founded Cosmographia Books in 2013 and the idea of a multi-event celebration of the press was long overdue. “I think people are hungry for books that make them feel soulful, whether its an mind-bending memoir exploring past lives, or a gut-wrenching navigation of childhood trauma through art and memoir, or stories in which otherwise absurd characters come to moments of wisdom and reckoning. Because I believe in our mission, I’ve put years of work into growing Cosmographia’s reach and authorship, along with local volunteers Carolyn Birrittella, Meags Downing, and Linnea Schaefer.”

Cosmographia’s literary journal, Canvas—co-run by Nina Alvarez and Lindsay Herko—routinely publishes teenage writers and artists from diverse nationalities and cultural identities, read and rated by a teen editorial board from all across the U.S. and even Taiwan. One of those board members, Julia Pelletier of Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester, NY, will join the reading as a representative of Canvas.
